According to CNN affiliate BFMTV, a Paris court on Monday decided that former French President Nicolas Sarkozy might be released from prison while his conviction for criminal conspiracy from September is appealed.
He was found guilty of participating in a plot to use money from Libya to support his 2007 presidential campaign in return for diplomatic perks.
Sarkozy thanked everyone who had “supported” and “defended” him in a social media post following his release, promising that the “truth will prevail” in his next appeal.
"I will immediately get the appeal trial ready. "I am putting all of my attention into demonstrating my innocence," Sarkozy stated.
