A bill signed by Donald Trump will end the longest closure in US history.

 

 

Following his remarks, President Donald Trump signed a budget package to end the longest government shutdown in US history and reopen the government.

The president states, "The country has never been in better shape," shortly before he signs the legislation.Trump adds, "It is a great day," as he ushers reporters out of the Oval Office.

In addition to providing funding for federal agencies, programs, and departments, the law will reinstate government personnel and reimburse hundreds of thousands of workers who have not received their salaries since the closure started on October 1.

The previous record of 35 days, set during Trump's first term, has been surpassed by the current 43-day shutdown.
